Betty Carr

Betty Journey Estep Carr was a long-lived native of Pulaski, Giles County, Tennessee and widow of J W Carr. Betty is survived by her daughters Sherry Estep Taylor (Ron) and Carla Carr Johnson (Matt). Preceding Betty in death were her parents Paul Journey, Emma Lilly Walls Journey and brothers Dale and Wayne Journey. She is blessed with 6 Grand Children Tyler Stevenson of Franklin, Tn. Adam Stevenson of Jackson, Tn., Jessica Stevenson Barron of Medina, Tn., Jonathon Taylor of Knoxville, Tn., Ben Johnson (Stephanie) of Pulaski, Tn. and Noah Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Tn. Betty also celebrates her 10 great grandchildren. She began her life 28 January 1936 in Giles County as the second child of 5 born to parents Edmond Paul Journey and Lilly Emma Walls. Betty had 4 siblings, Dale and Wayne Journey, Jo Journey Thompson and Elaine Journey Sanders Kellam. Betty attended and was baptized at Fairview Church of Christ as a child. She received her early education in the Beech Hill Community. Betty would marry a fellow Beech Hill High School student K. Wayne Estep in 1952. As a family Wayne, Betty and their daughter relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 1958. While in Nashville, Betty attended the Nashville School of Cosmetology. She was a student of Ray Reed and received a Diploma upon completion of her course of study. She then in 1959 opened her own business, Betty's Salon of Beauty in Nashville, Tennessee. While living in Nashville, Betty attended Waverly Belmont Church of Christ, Carol Ellis pastor. In 1965, while living in Nashville, Betty met J W Carr. Betty again relocated, back to Giles County with her daughter Sherry to be the wife of J W Carr. As a family in Pulaski, J W, Betty and the girls would make their church home at East Hill Church of Christ. Betty initially placed her Cosmetology license with Scoggins Beauty Shop in Pulaski, Tennessee. She would later open her own place of business and work as a Beautician in Pulaski as well as invest in Giles County Real Estate for many years to come. Betty and J W also combined their efforts to begin a new joint business endeavor, Carr and Erwin Funeral Home, that would be a lifelong legacy for J W Carr and Bobby Erwin in Pulaski, Tennessee. As daughters Carla and Sherry would like to offer our collective thanks for the help we have received in the many years we have cared for our mother. We would like to extend appreciation to Springview Compassionate Care, Pulaski, Tennessee; Sterling House Brookdale, Columbia, Tennessee and NHC Nursing Home Pulaski, Tennessee. The visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory. The funeral service will be 11:00 Thursday, March 19, 2020, in the chapel of Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory with Bro. Tim Sanders and Bro. Mark Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in Giles Memory Gardens in Pulaski, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Fairview Church of Christ and East Hill Church of Christ in our mother's name; Betty Carr. Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of arrangements for Betty Journey Estep Carr.
